Botox is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, called botulinum toxin type A. Toxins target the nervous system and disrupt signaling processes that stimulate muscle contractions. It causes temporary muscle paralysis and reduces stiffness.
The majority of people find Botox treatments painless and have mild to no side effects. The full effects of a Botox injection usually take 3 - 7 days to appear on the wrinkles or lines that were treated. Depending on what you are treating, Botox lasts for three to twelve months.
